RESULTS OF THE FIRST ROUND SO FAR IN THE
2008 NHL ENTRY DRAFT, POSTED FOR HOG AND FURIOUS.

8:47 CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS SELECT C KYLE BEACH ELEVENTH OVERALL
Of one of the most controversial players in recent draft history, McKenzie says Beach shoots like Brendan Shanahan
and acts like Sean Avery. If the Hawks were looking for someone to protect their diminutive star Patrick Kane, they may
have found that someone. From Central Scouting: "Kyle Beach is one of the top forwards in this year's draft and
is probably the most competitive — from the blueline in there is no one that competes like him.
He's feisty, he's got a reputation for being physical and agitating a little bit, but he definitely ranks in there as a
power forward and is THE power forward in this year's draft. He has good scoring skills and a very accurate shot,
and from the blue-line in, once he gets the puck, he almost owns it."

8:40 VANCOUVER CANUCKS SELECT C CODY HODGSON TENTH OVERALL
The Canucks make an emotional introduction in remembrance of late defenceman Luc Bourdon, and then select
the son of a former Ontario cabinet minister. TSN's Bob McKenzie says the only thing separating Hodgson from
Steve Stamkos (the top pick) is explosive speed. According to Central Scouting: "In the NHL, he is going to be a skilled
centreman and he's going to be on one of your top two lines. If you're a really good team you are fortunate to have
him as your second centreman because he is capable of being your first centreman."

Furious, I love the Hawk's pick and 99% of the Hawk's fans in their
forum feel the same way.

What's YOUR take on the Canuck pick?

AND ANYONE ELSE CAN ADD THEIR COMMENTS ABOUT
YOUR TEAM'S PICK IF YOU ARE A HOCKEY FAN.

Y'know I haven't had a huge chance to look over the goings on with the Draft.
I am glad that your Chicago fans are happy. We NEED happy Chicago fans. After that awesome start and dismal finish......
Our new coach has stated that he is looking at the now. There is smashing rumours of losing the Sedins! I am up for that if they get some excellent forwards cuz we need some damned offense! Luongo (our goalie) is fine in net, go for broke u bastards!
Plus there is the more than likely loss of Naslund, we can maybe see some wholesale changes that will see some results in this crazy Northen conference.
But I will do some research and see what else we came up with.
But the Harpy and I are all jazzed. The CFL has finished their exibition games and the first BC Lions' game starts next week!!
Woooot!!

During the draft, a short chat with some Canuck bigshot was
on TV, and he said the Sedins are not up for a trade. That was
broadcast live from the draft's floor. That doesn't mean it won't
happen though, I guess.

PROFILE FOR CODY HODGSON, FIRST ROUND PICK
BY VANCOUVER CANUCKS

Pos: Centre
Shoots: R
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 185 lbs.
Born: 02/18/1990
From: Markham, ON
Team: Brampton (OHL)
RANKINGS
TSN: 9
CSB: 9 NAS
ISS: 9
RLR: 9
McK: 9
THN: 8
Comparable: Chris Drury

From TSN: One scout dubs the Brampton Battalion forward as the sleeper of this year's draft, a complete package forward who maybe isn't as big or as fast or as purely skilled as some, but one who puts all elements of his game together as well as just about anybody in this draft class. "He's really not that far off Stamkos," the scout said. The folks at Hockey Canada would concur. Hodgson was the best Canadian at the recent Under-18 world tourney and displayed terrific leadership and character, plus an ability to score big goals and be the team's defensive conscience up front. He might be hurt by the tag of being an average skater and sub-six feet tall, but some scouts figure he has a lot of Chris Drury in him.

From NHL Central Scouting: He is a very skilled centerman who's hockey sense has him quarterbacking the power-play from down at the half boards. He knows when to shoot and when to pass – his point total reflects that. He's also a good face-off guy; he can take face-offs with the best of them and win them at the OHL level.

Year Team GP G A Pts Pim
2007-2008 Brampton (OHL) 68 40 45 85 36
2008 Playoffs Brampton 5 5 0 5 2

Awesome! The Canuck's big failures last season were face off (but they improved somewhat later on) and just pure offensive drive. But we just have to see if Hodgson can perform in camp. Bourdon took a while to break into a roster spot. And let's face it, the rookies have a big learning curve in the NHL. I want now, not 2-3 years from now.
Honestly I would like to see the Sedins traded. They need to move on. Their puck cycle is nice to watch and all, any goals are highlight goals but...... they never produced a ton.
How is Chicago's goalie outlook?

Hmm, the Hawks goalies.....

Well, Khabibulin and LaLime. (sp?)
The first one is starting the last year of his 6M per year
contract, and the latter is a UFA in July. I have no clue
what the Hawks will do for a Kabby backup if Lalime leaves.
I think there is a rookie in the AHL that, um, I dunno.
Nothing real promising as far as I can tell.

Why? You have a goalie to give us? Shocked
